The Story Behind the Method

This method is the result of more than ten years of teaching students of all ages and backgrounds.

While many excellent methods already exist, I often found myself combining several books to create a balanced learning path—one that truly connects technical development with musical enjoyment.

My goal was to create a resource that is clear for students, flexible for teachers, and enjoyable to use.

A Visual Approach to Learning

I believe that page design is an essential part of pedagogy.

Clear, spacious layouts, large music notation, and carefully designed illustrations help students feel confident rather than overwhelmed.

Each lesson is designed to be completed in approximately one week, giving students a rewarding sense of progress.

A Deliberately Simple Method

To preserve clarity, this volume does not focus on posture or instrument setup. These subjects are fundamental, but they vary between teaching traditions and deserve a dedicated publication.

Musical terminology is introduced gradually, allowing teachers the freedom to expand each concept during lessons.

This method is therefore intended to accompany regular study with a teacher.

A Progressive Learning Journey

The progression naturally adapts to each student's pace.

Rather than introducing every challenge at once, new notes, rhythms, and bowings appear step by step. Review lessons regularly consolidate previous skills before moving forward.

Exercises remain short, focused, and directly connected to the repertoire, ensuring that every technical element serves a musical purpose.

Instead of progressing one string at a time, the method explores the instrument through pairs of strings while introducing the first major keys:

• Violin: A Major, D Major & G Major

• Viola: D Major, G Major & C Major​​

 

A Clear Lesson Structure

From Lesson 6 onwards, each chapter includes:

• A summary of the notes used and a fingerboard diagram

• Note-reading exercises without meter to speak, sing, or play pizzicato

• Short technical exercises that prepare the repertoire

New musical concepts are highlighted in pink for quick visual recognition.

Play with Accompaniment

Playing with accompaniment develops listening, intonation, rhythmic confidence, and, above all, makes practice more enjoyable.

The complete collection of backing tracks is being released progressively and will be available free of charge on this website and on YouTube.

First-Year Learning Objectives

This volume covers approximately one year of study.

By completing the method, students will learn to:

• Place all four fingers securely in first position

• Read the corresponding notes on the staff

• Master fundamental bow strokes and bow distribution

• Perform simple rhythmic patterns with confidence

• Play comfortably in the first major keys

• Develop musical independence through a varied and engaging repertoire

Beyond technique, the method also nurtures music reading, listening skills, rhythm, and musical expression.

Estimated Duration

The complete course is designed to be completed in 12–13 months, depending on the student's pace and the school calendar.
